Please be advised that Custom Barres wood diameter's acceptance tolerance is +/- 1/32.  If you did not purchase the brackets from Custom Barres we cannot guarantee that your wood will fit in your brackets. Please make sure your bracket's ID allows some wiggle room. We highly suggest purchasing the brackets from Custom Barres to ensure a perfect fit.

Q. SHOULD I USE 1 5/8" DIAMETER OR 2" DIAMETER BARRE?

A.  The 1 5/8” Diameter is our standard size and is most commonly used in Dance Studios and Fitness Centers. The grip is significantly smaller than the 2” diameter and therefore is much easier for your hand to wrap around and hold the barre.

It is ultimately a personal preference, as both size barres will work well; however, most ballet and barre fitness installations will typically use the 1 5/8” barre, as it has sufficient strength, smaller grip and is more economical.

The 2” diameter barre is beautiful, very strong and makes a statement.  It is usually used for Fusion Classes where there are a lot of exercises underneath the barre, pushing the legs onto the barre.

IMPORTANT: Please don't forget to purchase your brackets and make sure to choose the correct diameter for your brackets!!!

If you are connecting the wood bars, we highly suggest choosing the option to pre-drill connecting bars so you have a strong connection between two sections. We will pre-drill the center of the barres for connection and provide you with the necessary hardware. Your installer will use a high quality wood glue (not provided) to connect the joining barres.

Custom Barres will do this service complimentary, FREE of charge!

HOW MANY BRACKETS DO I NEED?
For BALLET we recommend spacing the brackets no further than 64" apart while for BARRE fitness classes spacing should be no further than 48". Custom Barres will gladly assist you in designing the layout for your barre. This is a complimentary service FREE of charge.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN OPEN AND CLOSED SADDLE BRACKETS?
Both brackets are well secured into the wood barre by 2 wood screws under the saddle. Open saddle will give you the ability to stretch beyond the bracket location without having the bracket in the way, which is a really nice feature. The closed saddle provide you with slightly more support and hides the seam between 2 barre sections. Both options are perfectly suited for Barre fitness and/or Ballet.

HOW HIGH SHALL I MOUNT THE BARRE?
Standard Height for Ballet: 40" - 42" high (measured from floor to top of barre) Standard Height for Barre Fitness: 36" - 38" high (measured from floor to top of barre)

WHAT TYPE OF WOOD SHALL I CHOOSE?
Custom Barres carry only top quality hard wood, so it really depends on your budget and the look you are looking for. Unfinished Ash: $ (good) Unfinished Oak: $$ (better) Stains Better - Stronger than Ash Unfinished Maple $$$ (best) Stains Better - Stronger than Both to compare and see a close up picture of the wood please visit our available wood page.

DO I HAVE TO FINISH THE WOOD?
No. Many dancers wish to leave the barre unfinished. The wood barres come well sanded and unfinished. You may wish to stain the barre to match your room decor and/or apply 3 coats of Polyurethane to preserve the beauty of the wood, and bring out the beautiful wood grain.

HOW DO I CLEAN MY WOOD BARRE?
Wipe the barres with baby wipes / antibacterial wipes. These wipes are just as effective on sticky barres as they are on children. If the baby wipes have not removed all the sticky residue. Mix equal parts of water and vinegar in a spray bottle, shake gently. Spray the cleaning solution directly onto the barre and wipe with a cleaning rag. Repeat as necessary until all residue has been removed. Wipe the barres clean with a damp cloth to remove any remaining residue or vinegar solution.

DO YOU OFFER INSTALLATION SERVICES?
Unfortunately Custom Barres does not offer installation services, as we sell all over the USA and abroad; however, we will be more than happy to assist you with layout suggestions or any installation questions that you may have . We are also starting to build a prefferred installer database, so if you are an installer please feel free to share your information with Custom Barres so we can refer you to clients from your area. info@custombarres.com

DOES THE WOOD COME BEVELED?
Yes! If you did not say otherwise, all wood up to 10' in length will come beveled on both ends, so no sharp edges at the ends. It gives the ballet barre a finished look. Larger dance barres / fitness barres, for example a 14' barre, will come as 2 x 7' sections - one end will be pre-drilled for connection and the other end will be beveled, so when you connect the 2 barre sections together, it will look as if it was one long ballet barre. If you prefer the wood with no bevel or pre-drilling, please make sure to indicate this when you choose your wood barre.

Do you need one of our brackets in 1 1/2",1 3/4" or 2" diameter?
CAN YOU MAKE CUSTOM SIZE BRACKETS? or MAYBE EVEN A CUSTOM BRACKET?
Yes we can! We could make the brackets in different diameters and depending on the complexity we may be even able to produce a new custom designed bracket, but there is a minimum of 25 brackets per style per order and there will be a surcharge involved.
